DEFINITION
The moment a new user experiences the product's core value for the first time — the aha moment.

Classic examples: Slack = 2000 messages in a team, Dropbox = install + first file, Facebook = 7 friends in 10 days. Activation isn't signup — it's the first real value moment, and it's measurable.
Build every new-user flow to get to the activation event as fast as possible. Time-to-activation is the single best early-stage funnel metric.
